Redcliffe Clinic Opening Soon

OccuMED are pleased to announce that the Redcliffe Clinic will be opening soon (July 2011).

The Redcliffe clinic is located at 331 Great Eastern Highway, Redcliffe (near the Perth Domestic Airport).

The final touches are being made to the building and OccuMED will send out an email to its clients with an official opening date.

OccuMED CENTRALISED BOOKING SERVICE AVAILABLITY (XMAS 2010/NEW YEAR 2011)

Christmas 2010 is fast approaching and we'd like to officially advise of the availability of OccuMED's Centralised Booking Service during the times that the OccuMED Subiaco clinic is officially closed.

OccuMED Subiaco clinic CLOSED from 12pm on Friday 24 Dec 2010 and REOPENING on Tuesday 4 Jan 2011.

To allow OccuMED sufficient time to action booking requests before the clinic closes, booking request forms need to be received by OccuMED before 12pm on 20th December 2010.

To allow results to be received and delivered back to clients before the Subiaco clinic closes, the last appointment that will be booked by OccuMED with third party providers will be the 20th December 2010.

To provide OccuMED the best chance to secure you a booking (given third party providers are always booked out quickly at this time due to seasonal factors and clinic closures), please:

Ensure booking request forms are sent in ASAP before 20th December
Provide alternative dates that the worker is available should we not be able to secure the first nominated/preferred apointment date/time

A response to your emailed booking request form (being confirmation of appointment date/time) will be sent to you no later than 9am the following morning of receipt to request.

OccuMED in Mandurah

Dr Roger Lai, Specialist Occupational Physician, would like to advise that he will be commencing clinical practice in MANDURAH as of July 2009 at the Murray Medical Centre. This is in addition to his current practice in SUBIACO.

Dr Lai is also a WorkCover Approved Medical Specialist and will see patients in Mandurah for medicolegal assessments, impairment assessments, injury management and rehabilitation.

Dr Lai completed his medical degree at the University of Western Australia where he graduated with Honours. He completed his specialist exams in Occupational Medicine in 2007 and was the Australia-wide Dux. He is currently a Fellow of the Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.

Dr Lai has worked with OccuMED since 2005 and is currently a senior occupational physician within the organisation. He is experienced in all aspects of occupational medicine. His special interest is early intervention injury management including occupational rehabilitation and early return to work.

OccuMED Exercise Physiology

OccuMED Exercise Physiology provides active exercise treatment to improve cardiovascular fitness, range of motion, muscular strength and endurance following:

Injury or surgery
Diagnosis of chronic health conditions

The goal is to return the patient to optimal function at home, at work and in their recreational pursuits.

The active exercise treatment is partially supervised and undertaken at a facility and at times convenient to the patient.

OccuMED's Exercise Physiologists are University qualified allied health professionals accredited with The Australian Association for Exercise and Sports Science (AAESS). Exercise Physiologists specialise in the delivery of exercise, lifestyle and behavioural modification programs for the prevention and management of chronic diseases and injuries.

The exercise treatment developed by OccuMED's Exercise Physiologists consist of an initial assessment, formulation of exercise treatment needs, implementation of the exercise treatment program; at home or at a convenient facility, and ongoing reviews to determine appropriate upgrading of the exercise intervention.

Undertaken at a location easily accessible to the patient.
Emphasis on regaining optimal function.

As a Certified MRO, Dr Lai is able to interpret urine drug and alcohol results for Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), having completed CASA mandated training in the conduct and interpretation of drug and alcohol testing.

Event description:

Most patients follow an uncomplicated recovery following a work injury. Unfortunately, a proportion of patients follow a protracted course with the development of chronic pain and disability. These patients are time-consuming and difficult to manage.

Recent clinical guidelines have therefore focused on preventing the onset of chronic disability. There have been further developments since the guidelines were published.

Roger Lai will present up-to-date practical tools and tips on preventing chronic disability. John Liddell will discuss when and where surgery for low back pain is appropriate and beneficial.

John was Director of the Department of Neurosurgery at the Royal Hobart Hospital for 13 years, and returned to Perth 3 years ago. He currently works half-time in the Department of Neurosurgery at the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and in private practice - primarily, at the St John of God Subiaco Hospital. He has extensive experience with surgery of the lumbar spine.

A new hassle free service is on offer that allows OccuMED clients to skip the call to the worker and just contact OccuMED for a truly one stop call/email booking request.

OccuMED will liaise directly with the worker on our client's behalf and make a booking that's convenient to the worker. This means greater convenience to OccuMED clients and more effective use of their time.

To keep OccuMED clients in the loop, an email notification is sent by OccuMED to advise of the details of the booking. This notification to OccuMED's client is done in conjunction with an SMS notification to the worker confirming date, time, address of OccuMED appointment and instructions for photo ID etc.

In addition, OccuMED clients will be sent an email notification regarding any changes to the appointment date/times requested by the worker.

OccuMED Christmas Closure
